Top 10 Highest Individual scores in IPL history

Like any cricket tournament, IPL has seen some of the best batting performances. The first edition of IPL saw the best of batting and still tops the list. Since the advent of Twenty - twenty cricket, the particularly IPL, average strike rate increased considerably and are at all time high now.

#1 Brendon McCullum 158 (Not out)(2008)

Brendon McCullum created a record (It has now become history) in the very first match of IPL 2008 which is also the inauguration match of IPL league. Brendon McCullum''s unbeaten knock of 158 remains the highest score in T20 cricket history and IPL history as well.

His innings comprised 13 sixes at a strike rate of 216% scoring more than 2/3rd of the team''s score of 222. The huge score helped Kolkata Knight riders win the match by 140 runs after the batting line-up of the Royal Challengers collapsed for a mere 82 runs.

#2 Chris Gayle 128 (2012)

In IPL5 2012, Chris Gayle knocked an impressive 128 off 62 balls against Delhi Daredevils registering the second highest score in IPL.

The perfomance will remain one of the best in IPL for the record number of  sixes (13 sixes in the innings equalling McCullum''s record) and driving his team single handedly to victory in a must-win match.

He started slow (the first 10 runs came from 17 balls), but soon exploded adding the next 90 runs in just 35 balls. Its just not another good century, but a great one to count.

#3 Murali Vijay 127 (2010)

In IPL3 2010, Murali Vijay put up an amazing show for the cheering cricket fans of Chennai Super Kings in their home turf. The young energetic batsmen from Madurai scored 127 hitting 11 sixes and 8 fours off 56 balls.

Murali scored more than half of the team''s total of 246 which led to a 13 run win against the Rajasthan Royals. He will remain in the list of Top 10 highest individual scores in IPL for a long time.

#4 Paul Valthaty 120 (Not out) (2011)

Paul Valthaty''s smart show in IPL season 4 2011 helped Punjab Kings XI to beat the defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets.

Chasing a hard target of 188, Paul Valthaty  opened the bat with Adam Gilchrist and played a superb innings of 120 off 63 balls with 19 fours and 2 sixes in his kitty. And above all, this was his first century in IPL as well as T20 cricket and he remained not out.

#5 Virender Sehwag 119 (2011)

Virender Sehwag smashed 119 runs off 56 balls and led his team to victory chasing a huge total of 175 set by their opponent Deccan chargers. Once left alone after losing 3 wickets for 25 runs, Virender Sehwag pulled back tearing apart the Deccan chargers bowling attack.

While Virender Sehwag  has made many records in ODI''s and test cricket, this one will be remembered as his best performance in IPL.

#6 Andrew Symonds 117(Not out) (2008)

Andrew Symonds justified the price Deccan Chargers paid him for IPL 2008 when he put up a brilliant knock of 117 runs off 53 balls and remained not out.

Unfortunately he proved otherwise when he gave away 19 runs in the last over which resulted in Rajasthan Royals winning the match. But his feat remained as one of the Top 10 highest scores by an individual in IPL.

#7 Michael Hussey 116 (Not out) (2008)

Micheal Hussey was one of the early players to hit a century in IPL. In the first version of IPL, Mike Hussey scored a massive 116 off 54 balls setting the trend for more centuries in the IPL league.

He smashed 8 fours and 9 sixes to reach the mammoth score and the Chennai Super Kings put up a total score of 240. Mike Hussey''s century was the fastest century of IPL 2008.

#8 Shaun Marsh 115 (2008)

IPL 2008 saw another great innings from Shaun Marsh who made 115 off 69 balls. His massive hit comprised of 11 fours and 7 sixes taking the Kings Punjab XI''s total to 221.

James hopes opened the bat with Shaun Marsh and complimented him to add 113 for the first wicket in 13.4 overs. Though Marsh got out in the last over, his feat helped the team win the match by 41 runs against Rajasthan Royals.

#9 Sanath Jayasuriya 114 (Not out) (2008)

With a strike rate of 237% (second best strike rate for an IPL century), Sanath Jayasuriya made 114 in just 48 balls in IPL 2008. In all he hit 11 sixes and 9 fours. Jayasuriya opened the bat with Sachin Tendulkar chasing a total of 157.

His massive hit made the easy win possible in just 13.5 overs. It reminded the fans of the 1990s when Jayasuriya scared bowlers with his aggressive batting style.

#10 Manish Panday 114 (Not out)(2008)

aking the highest score (second player to score a century) of IPL 2009, Manish Pandey will remembered for this brilliant knock and the first Indian to score a century in IPL. His score card includes 4 sixes and 10 fours and made 114 off 73 balls.

He remained in the crease unbeaten and helped Bangalore Royal Challengers put up a nice score of 170 for 4 and evntually winning the game by 12 runs against the Deccan Chargers.
